Red Lips To Last All Night

Red Lips seem so beautifully simple. Apply a red lipstick, take care of the brows and lashes, and go. Madonna is famous for her seemingly simple red lip looks, like this one from the 2014 Grammys.

But as with all things in life, the Devil’s in the details.

Not all reds are created for all skin tones, and applying a red lip look takes more precision and care than other lighter colors (like pinks and neutrals). Red lips should be applied to be long wearing, to keep the look going all day or night. However, you don’t need a long wearing formula, so no worries if your favorite red isn’t a long wear variety.

To learn how to make any lip color long wearing, how to apply a lip liner for darker lip colors, and how to apply a red lip look with a gloss finish, watch my How to Apply a Red Lip Look tutorial below, then read on for my favorite reds for Ivory, Beige and Bronze skin tones, as well as those reds that can look great on everyone.

For Ivory Skin Tones:

Opt for reds with a blue undertone, like Mary Kay True Dimensions Lipstick in Firecracker

For Beige Skin Tones:

Choose reds with a pink undertone, like Mary Kay True Dimensions Lipstick in Sizzling Red (I’m wearing this one!)

For Bronze Skin Tones:

For darker skin tones true reds and orange reds (like Tangerines) look gorgeous. Try Mary Kay Creme Lipstick in Midnight Red for a dramatic red lip!
